The East-West Center was established by the United States Congress in 1960 as a national educational institution to foster better relations and understanding among the peoples of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific islands through programs of cooperative study, training, and research. The original structure of the East-West Center was designed by the world-renowned architect I.M. Pei and is his only work in Hawai'i.
The Campus Center, Hemenway Hall and the Warrior Recreation Center, these three buildings are the center of student campus life. Here you can find a food court, gym, ballroom, and more. Surrounded by these three buildings is a big tree that provides good shade for UH students.
UH Mānoa's 320-acre campus is home to more than 4,000 trees covering 500 plant species. In 2021, UH Mānoa was honored with Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for 12 consecutive years.
The Harold L. Lyon Arboretum is a 200-acre arboretum and botanical garden managed by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa located at the upper end of Mānoa Valley in Hawaiʻi. Much of the Arboretum's botanical collection consists of a lowland tropical rainforest with numerous trails and small water features.
*The arboretum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 am until 3 pm.
The Hamilton Library at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is the largest research library in the state of Hawaii. With a total of 304,265 square feet of space, Hamilton Library houses the research collections in the humanities, social sciences, science, and technology, the area focus collections for Asia, Hawaii, and the Pacific; archives, manuscripts, and other special collections.
The Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling Research Room is located in the Hamilton Library. Established on November 12, 2019, the 153rd anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's birth. Hamilton Library’s Asia collection holds more than 600 titles related to Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling, including books, photos, and other memorabilia on display in the research room.
